Fort Lauderdale Fishing

A Fort Lauderdale Fishing Charter
A summer evening charter.

Fort Lauderdale, Florida is where the St. Johns river and the Intracoastal Waterway meet to create a world class fishery. A Fort Lauderdale fishing charter offers visitors thousands of miles of shoreline, countless oyster bars, and acres of tidal creeks that attract an abundance of salt water fish. South Florida is known for having some of the best backwater fishing in the state. Nearly half of the East Coast’s salt marshes are found here. Roaming these waters are three of the state’s most sought after gamefish, the redfish, spotted seatrout, and flounder. Thousands of anglers come to south Florida each year for the chance at a grand slam, catching one individual of each species in one day.

Fort Lauderdale Fishing Charter – The Fish

The top species to fish for are large “gator trout” or speckled sea trout. Redfish, spot tail drum, and red drum are the secondary targeted species. “Bull reds” can reach sizes well over 40 inches in length and weigh up to fifty pounds. Many other species could likely be caught depending on the time of year:  sheephead, black drum, flounder, mangrove snapper, croakers, blue fish, lady fish, toad fish, sharks, tarpon, yellow mouth trout, and jacks… just to name a few. Most of them are seasonal, some more likely caught in the winter, others more likely in the summer, but you can always count on redfish and speckled trout, year round.
